Welcome to Rothesay Academy Parent Council Web-page. Our aim is to help all Rothesay Academy parents get involved in all sorts of things to do with school life. Our meetings are open to all parents and are held a couple of times each term, All parents are warmly invited to attend and we aim to hold meetings that are informal and friendly. The purpose of these meetings is to give parents the chance to make suggestions that will contribute to school life and to raise any matters of general concern. Parents can ask questions about educational issues and find out about things that are happening in the school. The Parent Council is also involved in fundraising for the school, and we will provide regular up-dates about events and activities we are planning.

All parents are welcome in the school and can become involved in school life as much or as little as they are able. Whether you’d like to see more parent/pupil sports activities; if you have a skill you’d like to pass on; if you can offer to help with school trips; if you’d like advice on helping your child with homework or exam preparation or if you simply want to keep yourself informed about educational developments that affect your child, we’d love to hear from you. We don’t expect every parent to join the Parent Council or commit to attending regular meetings, just come along when you can.

If there is anything you’d like to raise at the next Parent Council meeting please contact the school office on 01700 503367.

Rothesay Academy Parent Council – Report 2008/9

With a new Parent Council and new Head of Campus and Senior Management Team 2008 has been a year of change for everyone at Rothesay Academy.

The Parent Council was delighted to be involved in assisting the Head of Campus in interviews for Senior Management positions. This is a valuable way for parents/carers to be involved in some of the most important decisions that are taken by the Education Authority which affect our children’s’ lives and learning at school.

Being part of appointing senior staff is one way of parents being partners in school life. Another is raising funds for the school to do those extra things that the school budget does not stretch too. Fundraising events included a raffle and St Andrew’s Night Ceilidh which raised over £1500. The Parent Council asked for bids from School Departments and was able to meet those requests and also to buy lockers – a priority for the pupils. Any parent/carer who has attempted to lift their child’s heavy schoolbag (particularly S3 or S4) will know how important these lockers are! The Treasurer’s report for 2008/9 includes details of the funding.

The Parent Council also assisted in running discos at Halloween and Valentine’s Day providing a tuck shop service.

The new Academy website has been a positive achievement and the Parent Council have a page on the site (www.rothesayacademy.org.uk). Further information will be made available to parents/carers through this page and any comments that parents/carers have about useful information for parents that should be included is welcomed. Please contact any of the Council members.

Throughout the year our meetings have been very well attended and have received comprehensive reports from the Head of Campus on a wide range of issues and achievements at the Academy. We welcome this positive working relationship and look forward to working with and supporting the school in the future.

Parent Council meetings are open to all parents/carers and the dates and times are publicised on the website. All contributions, comments or suggestions on how parents/carers could be better involved in the life of the school are very welcome. Volunteers or suggestions for fundraising or events are also very welcome.
