Social Subjects Homework Outline

S1/S2
|
Knowledge homework is issued on a weekly basis, this includes written homework and research activities to be carried out to enhance pupil’s knowledge and develop pupils’ Enquiry Skills.
Pupils are also now required to carry out a project of several pages for at least two of the topics, one in Geography and one in History.
They are also introduced to homework that contains features of the elements required at Standard Grade level; this is aimed at raising attainment and aspirations in S2 and subsequently in S3/4.

Standard Grade

Pupils are introduced to different Enquiry Skills relevant to each unit of work building up to this becoming a feature of their weekly homework. This is issued after a skills lesson so that practice and support is given in class before homework is issued.
There is a rolling programme for each topic so that Knowledge is being addressed for each topic. This takes the form of essay homework for each topic in History and question practice in Geography, followed by knowledge revision homework at the end of each topic.

Higher
|
In History, pupils are issued with homework on a daily basis. This takes the form of research and pre reading of the topics under study.
In History, they are also issued with knowledge work on a Monday and Skills work on a Thursday after a skills lesson. In addition to this pupils are required to work on their extended essay throughout the year.
In Geography, homework is issued twice weekly in the form of past papers or supplementary reading.
Also supported study is on offer on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday to fine tune their skills, this has been identified as an area for improvement in the exam.

Int 1/2
|
Pupils have an 8-10 week programme of homework based on question practice and revision tied into the topics of work studied in class, for each Unit studied.
