Physical Education Department
Homework Plan 2009-2010
S1/2
At present no formal Homework is set for S1/2 Core Physical Education classes. Staff may set informal tasks for a class related to the activity the class are working on. These may be of practical nature e.g. “Try to be active three times for 20 minutes before next week” or of an investigative nature e.g. “Find out for next week the World High Jump Records and who holds them.” These activities are at the discretion of the class teacher.
S3 Standard Grade – 30 minutes
Students are assigned one homework exercise per week. This exercise relates directly to the topic covered in class and encourages revision of the key concepts covered in the lesson. Through formative assessment teachers are then able to highlight the areas for further revision.
S4 Standard Grade – 30 minutes (+ self motivated revision on weak areas)
Students are assigned one homework exercise per week. This exercise relates directly to the topic covered in class and encourages revision of the key concepts covered in the lesson. Through formative assessment teachers are then able to highlight the areas for further revision.
S4 Standard Grade, November onwards – 30 – 60 minutes
Homework at this point requires pupils to apply their knowledge to past paper examples. If they are unable to answer a question pupils are able to revise the relevant section from their notes. Through formative assessment teachers are then able to highlight the areas for further revision.
Int 2/Higher Physical Education 60 to 90 minutes
Homework takes the form of an ink exercise once per week. These are designed to develop the pupils’ ability to recognise the required competencies in the question and answer using their knowledge of the appropriate Key Concepts and Key Features.
