Learning Resource Centre Rothesay Academy
Mrs S Lawson, LRC Manager
With the opening of the new Rothesay Campus it is appropriate to move with the times and re-name the library as the Learning Resource Centre which better reflects the remit of the facility.
Mrs Lawson believes strongly that the resource centre should be an inspiring and stimulating environment for both pupils and staff and strives to make it welcoming. With the implementation of “A Curriculum for Excellence” her role has developed to help ensure that all members of the school community have the requisite skills, knowledge and experience to access and retrieve relevant resources and information from the appropriate source, be it book or electronic format. Interaction and communication between subject departments and the LRC is crucial for a cross-curricular approach to flourish.
As well as providing resources to complement the curriculum, the LRC helps the school develop literacy skills through reading for enjoyment, reading for information and information skills.

In particular, the promotion of reading and literacy is pursued through: –
· Carnegie shadowing
· Book promotions
· Author visits
· World Book Day
· “Reading Around the World” reading initiative
· Displays
It also supports extra-curricular activities such as:
· Activities Day
· Co-ordination of charity events for Spirit Aid
The LRC is open every morning interval and every lunchtime from 1.30pm as well as after school for homework or personal study.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day
International Talk Like a Pirate Day was a huge success raising a superb total of £979.81 to be donated to Spirit Aid. Well done!

A big thank you goes to the pupils who helped make the day such a success.
Fiona Ross and friends organised the Coffee Morning.
Craig Shaw and friends organised the Pirate Games.

Carly Clark, Candice McNeil, Jade Tritschler, Joanne Thomson, Sophie-Jayne McKellar and many others who were the instigators behind the whole idea.
Several of our senior pupils went out to St Andrew’s and North Bute Primaries and Apple Tree Nursery to read pirate stories.
